Timber Cottage in Gammelbyn Hovfjället

Welcome to Gammelbyn!
Gammelbyn is a well kept secret. The little holiday village in the north of the Swedish province Värmland is surrounded by stunning nature. In the middle of nowhere, about 25 km northeast of Torsby, only the sounds of the wilderness can be heard. Here you can relax, unwind and take a deep breath. The 22 holiday huts at the lake Rattsjön are surrounded by trees and wide lawns. A picture perfect sight that is rare even in Sweden.

The old village:
The holiday village Gammelbyn is situated in the middle oft he forest at the edge of the nature reserve Hovfjället. There are only a few neighbours and the closest village is 5 km away. You can be sure that you will find silence and solitude and that you are surrounded by a remote nature.
The 22 timber cottages have Tyrolean style and are generously spread on a hill. The small pawn, the grass covered roofs and the wide lawns remind of the old alp that used to be located here.
All huts measure approximately 30 sqm and have their own porch with furniture.

Equipment:
The huts with shower/toilet, TV (Swedish) and kitchenette (with cutlery and cooking equipment) are furnished in a simple and functional way. There is one bunk bed in each oft the two small bedrooms which are separated from the living room with a curtain. On a loft you find two more mattresses. Of course there are chairs and a table and furthermore you find a small cosy corner with couch and armchairs.

Sauna:
In the holiday village we have a sauna which you can use whenever you like. The Finnish smoke sauna ate the shore of lake Rattsjön is something really special. It reminds of the Finnish immigrants and can be booked on special occasions or for groups.
A path guides you down the hill to lake Rattsjön which is approximately 300 m away. At the end of the path you find the smoke sauna, a windbreak with fire place and a small bridge. Canoes and rowing boats are stored here as well.

Directions:
Follow road 45 and pass Torsby. After 19 km road 45 continues to the right, here you continue straight direction “Vitsand” which you will reach after 6 km. In Vitsand you drive past the football field on your left and a small store on your right. Right after the little store “Vitsandboa” you turn left following the sign marked “Gammelbyn”. You reach Gammelbyn after another 5 km.
