The Smålandstuga is a charming, simple cottage, very peacefully situated in the forrest of Småland. The cottage is non electrified, which means you cook on gas or wooden stove, heat the rooms with fires in stoves, get your drinking water from a well outside, go to the dry closet and keep the food cool in an earth cellar, light candles in the evening and so on. This is highly appreciated by our guests, since it´s an extremely stressfree way of living, very rare to find these days. We have had several grandmothers who wanted to show their urbanized grandchildren how it was to live in the old days!
The cottage has two small rooms and a kitchen and 6 beds. Please bring own sheets and towels - but if that´s not possible you can rent them from us! Guests clean the cottage after their stay. There is a neighbour cottage on the other side of the forrest road, also rentable, the Dalastuga.
1,5 km away is the lake and the small village Odensjö. Here you are welcome to use modern facilities at our touristinformation and Bed & Breakfast - fridge, freezer, shower, also rowing boat and bicycles (if available in right size!) - or you can charge your mobile and use wi-fi, for no extra cost.
In Odensjö there is also a sweet little church, a swimming area with a jetty and a playing ground, a cafe/restaurant and a waffelcafe at the open air museum on summer sundays.
Next shop, for food, is about 13 km away - might be a good idea to shop on your way.
The area is wonderful for swimming, canoeing, rowing, sailing, fishing, biking, walking, picking berries and mushrooms, but also for sightseeing in the south of Sweden. Day tours can easily be made to the beautiful West coast, the artistic glass area in the east, cheap shopping in Ullared, fun fair in Gothenburg, Astrid Lindgrens World in Vimmerby or why not a Wild West city (High Chaparall) in the north!
One single night costs 600 SEK, two nights cost 1000 SEK, three nights 1200kr and any longer stay costs 350 SEK per day. A whole week costs 2400 SEK. Firewood for the stoves is included in the price!
Pets are welcome in our cottages as long as they stay on the floor and in own beds/baskets!
Please note that the cottage during high season (week 26-34) is bookable whole weeks only.
Most welcome to experience the stillness of the nature and to test living like in the old days - this is a very meditative way of living!
