Björboholm and the large Lake Mjörn

At the turn of the 18th/19th cent. Björboholm was a popular watering and summer vacation spot for the well-to-do population of Göteborg. A train brought the people from Göteborg to Björboholm (30 km), who wanted to spend the summer months in the Swedish country site. Björboholm is located next to the large Lake Mjörn. It is the 17th largest lake in Sweden and has a length of 20 km. Old Björboholm lies partly on a romantic Peninsula. The view from the look-out point is breathtaking. There are 3 little islands, namely the Island of Love, of Faith and of Hope. The visitor can, with his/hers own boat, check out the small and large islands. Björboholm has its own hidden bathing bay. One is almost always alone there, especially on a summer morning. A paradisical place for swimming!

The Blue House
Björboholm has many beautiful, stately wooden homes dating back to the turn of the cent. and to the twenties. In the center there also existed a mission church, built in 1926, which was active until the eighties. In the mid eighties it was converted into a home. Until 2006 we have been the owners of this unusual home, called the `blue house`by the people of Björboholm. Our living room was once the loction for festivities like weddings, confirmations, Sunday religious service, christening ceremonies and many holidays. The dining area was once the place of the altar.

Our guests have the attached rectory and the little guard room at their disposal with private entrance, separate garden and parking. The ground floor offers a cozy eat-in kitchen with entry to the garden and a living room with a wood-burning fireplace. The upper floor has 2 bedrooms and a large bathroom. The are also dishwasher, washing machine, dryer and heat. 64 qm are just right for 4 people.

Additional attraction:
In good weather one can barbeque freshly caught fish. Please note: we have also a small motorboat! (rental is available after reservation). The old train rails were turned into a bike path, moving along the lake, offering lovely views onto the water. We recommend to take with you your own bicycles. After 4 km one has reached Gråbo, one can purchase at the local supermarket just about everything, even fresh fish in its own little fish hut. The bike path ends in Göteborg (30 km). In of rain, (which is a frequent occurrence in this region), there are wonderful Swedish activities to make up for it: berry and mushroom gathering in the Björboholm forest. This forest begins ca 200 meters behind the house. The collected treasures make a great meal. In addition we find in the area many small fishing and bathing lakes. Swedes like to fish during rain. An alternative to spendig a rainy day in a rainy forest is to catch a bus to and visit the metropolis of Göteborg. The busstop is in front of the house, practically and reaches Göteborg`s main station in ca 50 minutes. In good weather there are numerous opportunities for an excursion. We recommend highly a trip to the west coast or a boat ride to Göteborg`s Islands.

The Blue House - Conditions:

Arrival time: usually on Saturdays
The prices are valid for maximum 4 persons. The price includes electricity, heat and wifi. A private parking space is available. Bed sheets and towels can be obtained with an additional Euro 10 per person. The guests are responsible for the final cleaning of the rooms, but can be provided by the owner for an additional Euro 100. No smoking in the house.No peds.

Additional information: Highchair are available by request. Boat rental available after consultation (rock in the sea!). Fishing license can be easily obtained. Distance to the sea: 350 meters. The landlord lives on the same property and can help you to find the best hotspots for hiking, fishing, biking and swimming.
The little road near by the house is busy during rushhour.

Arrival

By car: Most comfortable with the ferry Kiel-Gothborg (Stena-Line). In Goteborg take road 190 direction Sollebrunn. In B... turn left direction Burhult. After 100 meters large blue house on the left side.
By bus: Goteborg main station: Orange Express direction Sjövik. Busstop Björboholm.
By plane: Ryan Air city airport Goteborg lies within a distance of 35 km, Landvetter airport within a distance of 30 km. Our guest house can easily be reached from Goteborg and Landvetter airports by public transportation.
