Neighborhood description:
Situated on the 11 hectar grounds of Mariehov manor, the Mariehov stables enjoy complete privacy and beautiful surroundings, a short walk from picturesque Mariefred just 35 minutes by train from Stockholm. From its remotely controlled wrought-iron gates, the private road winds through lush oak forests, planted on the royal hunting grounds over 400 years ago. Lake Mälaren, one of western Europe's largest lakes, is just a 3-minute walk from the house and offers fresh, clean swimming down the gravel road from Mariehov. Just a short 15-minute stroll from your splendid forest cottage you’ll find yourself in the picturesque 16th century village of Mariefred, built along the shores of lake Mälaren. A myriad of small cafés, bakeries, restaurants, shops and art galleries dot the village lanes, tempting passersby with everything from freshly baked pastries, local cheese and honey to books, jewellery and fashion. The church, completed in 1697, hosts choir concerts and of course a visit to the royal castle museum from 1537, Gripsholms Slott, is one of Mariefreds most spectacular attractions. The castle boasts one of the world’s oldest and largest portrait galleries and one of Europe’s most well-preserved theatre stages from the 1700's. Mariefred offers many choices of dining out, from world-class restaurant Skalla Bord to fine dining at Gripsholms Värdshus, you will also find many more choices within the area.
