Log cabin in the picturesque village of Gopshus, 20 km (12 miles) west of Mora and with a view of the river Österdalälven. The classic cross-country ski race Vasaloppet runs right through the village, and the 90 km trail (150 miles) is perfect for cross-country skiing in the winter and cycling/hiking/jogging in the summer. There are many nice hiking trails and some beautiful waterfalls where you can swim in nearby Älvdalen. It is just a few minutes walk to the nearest bathing jetty in Österdalälven, and 4 km (6 miles) to a nice sandy beach by lake Oxbergssjön.
In winter, it is walking distance to the world-famous cross-country ski tracks of Vasaloppet, which are available all winter. Between Gopshus and Oxberg, the track is illuminated. There are also plenty of other nice cross-country skiing trails nearby. For those who prefer downhill skiing, there is Gopshusbacken, which has four descents, a ski cross slope, and a children's slope with a button lift. The longest descent is 1350 m. There is also a kiosk and barbecue area. A perfect family ski slope without queues. The slalom slope is open to the public, except on certain days when Mora Alpin practices giant slalom there or holds slalom competitions. For more details about opening hours, see the webpage of Gopshusbacken.
A modern bathroom with shower and toilet, fully equipped kitchen, wood fire sauna, washing machine. A rowing boat with outboard motor, a canoe, bicycles, a charcoal grill, garden furniture, TV, wifi and board games available.
4-6 beds in the main house. 1 sofa bed in the kitchen that can be used either as a single bed of 80 cm or a double bed of 160 cm, and 1 sofa bed in the TV room which also folds out into a double bed of 160cm. One sofa bed in another room that folds out to two single beds.
4 beds in separate building. 1 sofa bed that folds out into a double bed of 140 cm, plus two single beds on the loft. The ladder up to the loft is steep and the loft is high up, so it is not safe for small children.
To think about winter season: we don't live near Gopshus and rent out our cabin as it is. This means that you may have to shovel if it snows a lot, or sand if it is slippery between the houses. One of the villagers shovels roads and driveways in the village when it has snowed heavily, but he does not come exclusively to our house so it may take a few hours before our driveway is shoveled. This means that you sometimes have to park in our parking lot down by the road, or shovel the driveway yourself if you don't want to wait. We have snow thrower and sand.
Both houses are fully insulated for winter. Parking space (both down by the road and up by the house - but the uphill is tough for some cars in the winter when it's slippery). Nearest grocery store in Mora or Älvdalen.
